Mare and I found a persimmon tree on our walk today.

I brought one home so that I could smell it. The smell brings back memories of visiting my maternal great-grandparents when I was a little girl.

Mare smelled almost every persimmon that had fallen off the tree, but didn't try to eat any of them.

When she feels overwhelmed, she will burrow under her blanket and go to sleep. When she wakes up, she will stand up and walk around. She looks like a little doggy ghost.

Also, I have an awful cold and halfway wish I was dead.

I love my dog so much. All I want to do is lie on the couch with her and watch movies (this involves laziness as well as love).

I gave her a bath tonight and I keep wanting to put my nose into her fur to smell her.

/crazy dog love

We (that would be [info]phordicus, my true human love, and me--not Mare and me) went to the mall today. I saw this sweater

and decided that my life would not be complete without it . . . yet my intense desire for the sweater (and the plaid shirt they were displaying with the sweater) collided with the sixty-dollar price tag and the two concepts--perfect sweater versus hey, that is a lot to spend on a sweater--engaged in a steel-cage death match within my mind.

Finally I heard my mother's voice saying "You should wait until the spring clothes come out and then the sweaters will be on clearance." True motherly wisdom, even though it is only halfway through September. All my nice sweaters were purchased off-season anyway.

. . . "dog flatulence."

She's a sweet little girl, but the smell is killing me.

What the hell?

To some Oklahoma football fans, there are things that just aren't done in the heart of Sooner Nation, and one of them is to walk into a bar wearing a Texas Longhorns T-shirt.

One of my co-workers went to OU. His office is covered in OU stuff. He has an OU tattoo on his ankle. Seriously, I wouldn't fuck with that type of devotion. But I don't think he'd try to rip off a guy's testicles for being a Texas fan.

In other news . . . Disaronno came home today! But her new name is Mare (pronounced Mar-ay). She's slept a lot--the big change was stressful. But she also played with her new ball, has gone on three walks, and successfully avoided a bath (she got upset and went into her crate, so I decided to postpone the bath until tomorrow).

Our growing family!

I went to the shelter yesterday and filled out the paperwork to bring this girl home to live with us!

She was picked up as a stray, so her history is kind of blank--but the vet there thinks she is about a year old. She is housebroken, so she belonged to somebody. She's still got her cough (but it is much better) and they want to keep her there until she finishes her medication. She'll be spayed on Monday and we'll go get her on Tuesday. I'm so nervous and excited. I hope she likes us.

Meanwhile, we've decided that "Disaronno" is just too long of a name to use and we want something shorter. We're going to name her something else . . . we don't know what yet. Let Name Debate 2007 begin! Actually, it's really fun.

We're going to go shopping for dog stuff this week. I want to get her stuff all ready for her.

. . . not feeling well.

Watched two episodes of Beverly Hills 90210, Batman, and Judge Judy.

Oh, hey there Disaronno!

We're going to visit you tomorrow!

Apparently I woke up at 7:30 AM this morning and started freaking out about how I was late to work and I'd done everything wrong. It was all a bad dream, of course. I wasn't late to work because I hardly had to work today (just one meeting at 1:30 PM) and I hadn't done anything wrong at work . . . because I've been off since Tuesday morning.

I woke up again at 10 AM and went by the animal shelter to take my little friend for a walk. He enjoyed the walk, which he filled with obsessive sniffing, trying to see if he could lead me around (I let him know that he couldn't), getting his tummy rubbed, and taking a dump on the ground. He was picked up as a stray, but he must have been somebody's pet at some point. He's pretty much leash-trained and he is also housetrained. Also, he can jump really, really high. When he wanted to go outside he jumped up to at least door knob level three times in a row. He's like a superdog! [info]phordicus and I are talking about bringing him home. He's so cute. I'm not even sure if he's going to still be there when I go back after working this weekend. We'll see.

I met the cutest guy today

Woke up early today and went to the animal shelter to visit with the homeless animals. [info]phordicus and I played with the kittens until his allergies made us flee the cat room and then we went to look at the dogs. There was the cutest little pug/terrier mix dog there--he didn't have a name (he was picked up as a stray) so I named him Disaronno (after one of my favorite ads of all time, youtubed here for your pleasure):

I told [info]phordicus if we adopted him I could call him by his full name--"Disaronno sour, Disaronno martini"--whenever I wanted him to come (I would also give him ice cubes to suck--wait, that probably isn't good for dogs, huh?). He was very excited to see visitors. It was feeding time and he dumped the contents of his food dish all over the floor. He looked kinda like this guy:

but he was black and white. SO CUTE. I love you, Disaronno! I'm going back to see him tomorrow after I attend an obligatory meeting at work (because I am the warehousing inventory captain! I will organize the counting of everything!).
