Conversation from yesterday:

[info]corkyelmendorf: ". . . so then Kate sent me a text message and said it was from her cat, Pet--"

Me: "They named the cat Pet?"

[info]corkyelmendorf: "It's after General Petraeus."

Me: "Is he from Star Wars?"

[info]corkyelmendorf: *blinks* "No. He's the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq."

Me: "Oh yeeaaaah. Of course."

Seriously, I knew that on one level--but clearly not on the "everyday operational knowledge" level. But doesn't it sound like a Star Wars name?

The absolute best part of Snakes on a Plane is when the lights go out on the plane and a guy (off-camera) yells "SNAKES!"

It's totally random and it makes me laugh until my stomach hurts.

You know what else makes me hurt?

I don't know who watches Top Chef )

it makes me laugh

Every time somebody famous dies, somebody in [info]ohnotheydidnt makes a comment like "Why is everybody dying?" or "Wow, these things always happen in threes!" or "Everybody is dying lately."

DEATH IS NEW IT FREAKS ME OUT

Don't worry. Soon we will have conquered this new threat to our existence.

Edit: Somebody just commented this is sad but at least it's not been as bad as last year. remember when someone died like at least once a week for a while, like at the beginning of the year?. I'm pretty sure that somebody "died like at least once a week" for every week in 2006. I know that by "somebody" they mean "somebody famous," but the average iq in that community is so low that I cannot be 100% sure.

The Awakening by Kate Chopin
I have a friend who swears by this book. Frankly, I don't see what the fuss is about. Mr Pontellier is a bad husband. Robert tried, but just made it worse. He shouldn't have been philandering with married women anyway. And while I could frequently see where Edna was coming from, I agree with her husband - she lost her freakin mind. Maybe it's just me, I dunno. Also, I knew how it would end long before it did, and found the end to be depressing. I felt like Chopin was making a blanket statement that marriage is inherently unhappy, where she kept pointing out all the other people Edna loved, and not really showing a good marriage ... but I really have to say that my own marriage is wonderful and amazing and was offended by the implication that marriage cannot be fulfilling.

Let me tell you about my wonderful marriage, internets! It makes me incapable of appreciating books about bad marriages.
